The information in this article should be of some concern to Vietnam.

Many of us remember a previous experience in November 2011, when Japanese
importers halted rice imports from Vietnam because of suspected GMO
contamination. After investigation showed the claims not to be true, sales
resumed, but many Vietnamese companies were damaged financially.

Within the last two weeks, South Korea joined Japan in announcing a halt on
imports of U.S. wheat after the U.S. Department of Agriculture's announced
that commercial wheat grown in the USA was contaminated with Monsanto's
genetically engineered wheat.

I
n August 2006, Japan banned U.S. long-grain rice imports after GMO
contamination was discovered, resulting in a drop in rice prices of 5
percent.
