<br>Good news: Brazil's Supreme Court of Justice (STJ) denied on Wednesday 21 February the extension application filed by Monsanto on its patent on Roundup Ready 1 (RR1) soybean variety. This confirms that the company does not have the right to collect royalties on this variety.<br><br>This decision will favour the court cases brought by the farmers' unions, Famato and Rural Trade Union of Mato Grosso, which state that the patent expired in 2010.<br><br>Monsanto said it will appeal the ruling:<br>http://prn.to/ZwYAiT<br><br>Monsanto stands to lose billions of dollars in revenues from its GM RR soybeans, after court decisions in farmer-brought class action lawsuits ruled that the patent had expired and that the company had been collecting royalties illegally for years.<br><br>Background:<br>Monsanto may lose GM soya royalties throughout
