Dear Mr/Mrs,

In Vietnam, if no effective solution were applied, the impact of climate change would lead to the losses of 1% in GDP which is equivalent to 5 billion USD every year. The sea level rise would cause the loss of 2 billion USD, of which 0.7 billion USD in fishery, 0.5 billion USD in agriculture, 0.5 billion in biodiversity and 0.3 billion in flood and landslide.

Those figures and information were provided by Climate Vulnerability Monitor program which was introduced by the DARA international and Climate Vulnerable Forum in their report on 26th September 2012 in New York. The report is considered as the most comprehensive ever assessment of the current global impact of climate change released today and the second to be issued by an ongoing international research program on climate-related vulnerability mandated to the independent humanitarian and development research organization. The study estimates human and economic impacts for 184 countries in 2010 and 2030 across a wide range of separate effects. High-level and technical panels of over 50 leading scientists, economists, and policy experts, including former heads of government, reviewed the report whose development also involved field-based research in Africa and Asia.

In the monthly meeting of Climate Change Working Group, on behalf of DARA International, we will present the further details of Vietnam case study, including information and data relating to aspects of health, biodiversity, agriculture.
