Dear CCWG members,

On the 13th of June, under the USAID funded Vietnam Forest and Deltas
Programme, American Red Cross VN will be organizing a session on
Experiential climate change games. Those participatory games are designed to
help disaster risk managers, government stakeholders, forecast providers and
donors understand the risks and advantages of taking (or not taking) action
based on probabilistic seasonal forecasts and changing climate risks due to
climate variability and global climate change. There are now 18-20 seats
available for members of CCWG & DMWG.

Organizers encourage the participation of active members, who are committed
to work with game facilitators for further development and adaptation of the
games to fit with local context and various Vietnamese target audiences.

Each organization should nominate one (1) person to join. If you are
interested, please get back to Ms. Mac Thi Huyen at huyen.mt at care.org.vn
(cc-ing nga.htq at care.org.vn) before 5 PM, 31st May 2013 , bearing in mind
that the seats will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

With best regards,

Subject: 13th June experiential climate change game session for DMWG, CCWG
and JANI members

Dear Yen, Nga, Eric and Duong,

Greetings from Texas! I trust that you are all well? I am enjoying a few
days of annual leave here!

During 2013 and 2014, the American Red Cross and the VNRC, as part of the
Vietnam Forest and Deltas Programme will explore the use of experimental
climate change related games in a series of events aimed at different target
audiences.

I am writing to let you know about the forthcoming visit of Janot Mendler de
Suarez to Hanoi from the 10th to 14th June. Janot is a Visiting Research
Fellow
<http://www.bu.edu/pardee/publications-library/2012-archive-2/games-climate-
task-force/> , from Boston University Pardee Center for the Study of the
Longer-Range Future and The Climate
<http://cdkn.org/2012/08/the-climate-and-gender-game/> & Gender Game Deep
Uncertainty Game Design Consultant, World Bank. Janot has been to Viet Nam
before and designed and run games for the Viet Nam Seas & Islands
Administration, in Haiphong and Hanoi and with Hanoi University of Science
& Technology (with ~300 participants) some time ago. Some of you may be
aware that Janot (and others involved with experiential climate change
related games) ran some games during the Climate Centre sessions at the last
COP.

We are aiming to hold two half day events, the first for Red Cross
colleagues and the second, on Thursday 13th June for members of the CCWG,
DMWG and JANI. Assuming that you might be interested, I would be most
grateful for your help - as chairpersons of the CCWG, DMWG and JANI - in
identifying about 18-20 of your working group members to participate in this
session. Ideally, we would like to really active members who would be keen -
not just to participate in the games sessions - but also work with Janot and
my colleague, Lisette Braman (the CCA Adviser from the American Red Cross
who will also be working with Janot) to provide guidance and support for
improvements, contextualisation and development of games suitable for future
use with different target audiences in Viet Nam (these could be government
officials or farmers!).

I attach the draft ToR for Janot and look forward to hearing from you
sometime next week.

Kind regards,

Ian
