CURRENT FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES: REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL



This month Give2Asia and the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) announced support for disaster preparedness and resiliency programs in six of the most vulnerable and under-served South and Southeast Asian countries, listed above. Supported by a three-year $1.5 million grant from the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation, the program connects the international philanthropic community with local charitable groups preparing for natural disaster and climate change. Give2Asia and IIRR invite local charitable groups to submit proposals and concept notes for funding consideration. One-year projects up to $25,000 or two-year projects up to $50,000 will be considered for funding from the Give2Asia & IIRR NGO Disaster Preparedness Fund. Give2Asia and the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) invite key stakeholders in six target countries to participate in free three-day consultations in July and August 2014. These conferences are will gather important ideas and recommendations on local disaster preparedness issues and programs, while introducing attendees to ideas of Community-Managed Disaster Risk Reduction and the long-term opportunities of the Give2Asia & IIRR NGO Disaster Preparedness Program. The consultations will share learning, best practices and experience across South and Southeast Asia. The EMC® Heritage Trust Project recognizes and supports local organizations worldwide that advocate the digitalization, preservation and improved access of significant cultural resources. Since it was founded, the program has awarded Heritage Trust grants to 38.

This program awards three grants of  up to $15,000 USD  is open to institutions in India, Japan, Mexico, Philippines and other countries. Applications will be accepted May 7, 2014- June 20, 2014. The top seven finalists will be announced on August 1, 2014. The general public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite project and the top three winners will be announced on August 27, 2014. Mitraniketan<http://give2asia.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e2a3717607c98b82ccf51b7fa&id=8902cc6e0f&e=f4e258034c> was established for the development of individual, family and community through a well integrated development education. Their programs are based on an alternative education model for development and largely caters to tribal or economically disadvantaged or marginalized communities in Kerala, India. In late April 2014, committed founder Mitraniketan Viswanathan passed away at the age of 86. In India, his name is synonymous with voluntary social action as he was a pioneer in education and rural agricultural development.

The Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC)<http://give2asia.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e2a3717607c98b82ccf51b7fa&id=4a967b9589&e=f4e258034c> is dedicated to helping the children of imprisoned parents in Nepal, many of whom were living inside the jails alongside their mothers. By providing children the shelter and education needed, ECDC helps end the cycle of crime and poverty. Currently ECDC is building another orphanage to house its increasing number of children.
