Subject: UN CC:Learn launches One UN Introductory e-course on Climate
Change & Guidance Note on the development of a National Climate Change
Learning Strategy
Dear Members of the UN Joint Framework Initiative on Children, Youth and
Climate Change,
UN CC:Learn has recently launched a One UN Introductory e-course on Climate
Change as well as a Guidance Note to help countries adopt more strategic
and systematic approaches to climate change learning, both of which support
the implementation of Article 6 of the Convention. These products have
been developed through extensive dialogue and support provided by more than
30 UN organisations, together with on the ground experience from 5
countries, Benin, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Malawi and Uganda. We
encourage you to take note of these products and to pass them on to your
networks.
THE ONE UN INTRODUCTORY e-COURSE ON CLIMATE CHANGE
This free self-paced e-learning course is now fully up and running,
covering 6 modules including climate science, policy, adaptation,
mitigation, finance and planning. The course has been produced by you. It
is a One UN product that can and should be shared widely. It provides
10-12 hours of interactive learning and uses a mix of different approaches
including visuals, explanatory text, videos, and quiz questions. Learners
receive a certificate once they have completed and successfully passed all
6 modules. It also comes with downloadable PPT based versions if you want
to use it as an instructional tool.
To make a start just click on the link below and register (then pass it on
to as many others as possible).

GUIDANCE NOTE: HOW TO DEVELOP A NATIONAL CLIMATE CHANGE LEARNING STRATEGY
More than 50 countries have expressed interest in developing a national
climate change learning strategy. In response to this demand the UN
CC:Learn Secretariat has released a Guidance Note which provides
methodological and organizational suggestions for developing such a
strategy. The Guidance Note also responds to the UNFCCC Doha work programme
on Article 6 which invites States to prepare a national strategy on Article
6 of the Convention (dealing with climate change education, training,
public awareness-raising, public participation and public access to
information).
The Note is the product of a three year pilot phase, including five
national UN CC:Learn projects to "Strengthen Human Resource Capacities and
Skills to Address Climate Change". The five pilot countries are Benin, the
Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Malawi, and Uganda. The Note has been
developed with valuable input from members of the UN CC:Learn Steering
Group and discussions at several international and regional meetings.

ABOUT UN CC:LEARN
UN CC:Learn is a partnership of 33 multilateral organizations which
supports Member States in designing and implementing results-oriented and
sustainable learning to address climate change. The Secretariat for UN
CC:Learn is provided by UNITAR. An important aspect of UN CC:Learn is to
support countries develop a National Strategy to Strengthen Human Resources
and Skills to Advance Green, Low Emission and Climate Resilient Development
through a multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder process. During the course
of 2012-2013, Benin, the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Malawi, and Uganda
are participating as UN CC:Learn pilot countries. Core funding for the
2011-2013 implementation phase of UN CC:Learn is provided by the Swiss
