Subject: PLEASE SHARE FOR SIGNATURE - Humanitarian crisis and climate change - open letter for Laurent Fabius and Ban Ki Moon

In french below

Dear all,

On September 9 an international conference on “Climate change and humanitarian crises : understanding and taking action” will take place in Paris, in the presence of Mr. Laurent Fabius, French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, Mrs. Annick Girardin, Minister of State for Development and Francophony and Mrs Laurence Tubiana, Special Representative for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference. At the close of the conference, which looks at examining the link between climate change and humanitarian crises, French and international humanitarian NGOs will hand over to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, Mr Laurent Fabius, an open letter addressed to the States Parties invested in the COP 21 and ODD negotiations, to make them aware of the humanitarian impacts of their negotiations and urge them to work towards an ambitious agreement. 11 recommendations will be presented to mitigate the disastrous effects of climate changes on the well-being of vulnerable people. Mr Fabius will hand over the letter to Mr Ban Ki Moon the next week, prior to the UN general assembly and the discussions on the SDGs.

The letter is attached and we would like to gather the maximum signature before handing it over to Mr Fabius.

CARE France was very involved in the drafting of the letter and CARE International has signed it. We are now trying to gather the maximum number of signature. So we would need your help with the dissemination of this message with your partners!

It is key that the humanitarian community engages and signs this text, as all aid actors face in their daily work the devastating effects of climate change. By calling out together, we stand a better chance to raise the COP21 and SDGs negotiators’ awareness on the humanitarian consequences of their decisions or lack of decision.

A signature platform will soon be launched online, but in the meantime interested NGO can send an email to stephanie stern (stern at iris-france.org<mailto:stern at iris-france.org>) or me confirming their signature and indicating their : name, organization, job title and attaching a logo.
