[Ngo Climate Change] Supporting Regional Conference on Gender & DRR organized by UN Women

Dear CCWG & DMWG colleagues, 

I would like to share with you that UN Women and government of Japan is 
going to organize a Regional Conference on Gender in DRR tentatively on 
11-14 April 2016 in Hanoi. 
 
Overall the conference aims to identify practical measures for substantive 
integration of gender equality and women’s empowerment in disaster risk 
reduction taking into the differential impacts and abilities of different 
gender groups. This conference is very important in the context that the 
governments is requested to localize Sendai Framework and develop 
country’s targets and indicators. Further information you could find in 
attached ToR and tentative agenda.

They would highly appreciate your support in making this upcoming 
conference in Hanoi successful as following: 

·         Co-organizer for sessions / side events: Please indicate if your 
organization will support by organizing any session or side-events. 
Organizers of sessions will need to refine the objectives of the session, 
decide on the key messages, coordinate with chair and speakers, decide on 
the format of the session, etc. Organizers of side events will decide on 
what will be showcased, format, objectives, etc. For side events, please 
discuss further with UN Women so we understand your requirements. For the 
session or side event which you are interested in, send us an email.
·         Organizing Committee member: The organizing committee members 
will be comprised individuals who will be supporting in overseeing the 
technical issues for the conference. Leading up to the conference and 
during it, organizing committee members will oversee the topics of the 
sessions, panel of speakers, chairs to ensure that the sessions are 
focused and key gender and DRR messages are being highlighted. Where 
necessary, the organizing committee will help the co-organizers of the 
sessions in contacting the relevant speakers and chairs. This will be in 
particular for the Day 2 when the technical session will be taking place. 
During the conference, the organizing committee will work on the 
recommendations coming out from the three-day conference to ensure views 
of all participants are rightly represented. Organizing committee will be 
meeting very frequently over the next few months.
·         Suggestion for chairs and speakers: Please suggest names for 
speakers and chairs that are strong on gender and DRR.

A template for a detailed agenda to help us in planning is attached to the 
email. 

Please let us know if your organization is interested in co-organizing a 
session or a side event. Also, please let us know if you are available to 
be a part of the organizing committee.
