Curbing climate change and preventing deaths from air pollution go hand-in-hand and should be part of every country’s climate and development agendas. This webinar will focus on options for countries to incorporate targets, policies, and actions on short-lived climate pollutants into their updated NDCs. It will also highlight the many climate, health and development gains that can be achieved by focusing on these highly potent but short-lived gases, which include methane, tropospheric ozone, black carbon and HFCs. Speakers will include Dan McDougall (CCAC), Daniel Benefor (Government of Ghana), Johan Kuylenstierna/Chris Malley (SEI) and Katie Ross (WRI). Co-hosted with the Climate and Clean Air Coalition.

Enhancing NDCs in 2020: Opportunities in the Power Sector

Taking stock of progress in the power sector since the first NDCs were developed reveals that while moving toward zero-carbon energy is fundamental, increasing ambition in the power sector requires more than merely increasing renewable energy targets. This webinar highlights four foundational strategies for further transformation of the power sector to happen. These include planning for enhanced grid flexibility, addressing existing coal assets, making necessary institutional changes, and tapping synergies between the power and end-use sectors. Speakers: Brent Wanner (IEA), Noemie Leprince-Ringuet (WRI) and speakers from NDC Partnership and UNDP (TBA).
