<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Myriad Pro"">Over the past two years, Viet Nam has experienced the strongest El Ni�o-induced drought and saltwater intrusion on record, with at its peak severely affecting over 2 million people and more
than one third of the total provinces. On 26 April 2016, the Government and the UN jointly issued the
<i>Drought and Salt Water Intrusion Emergency Response Plan</i> with an appeal for US$48.5 million to address key immediate needs. Since then, more than 54% of this appeal has been mobilised from Government and non-Government sources to deliver life-saving
water, sanitation and hygiene, nutrition, health, food security and livelihood support. We would hereby like to highly appreciate your great support to the people of Viet Nam in this tough period.</span></p>

<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Myriad Pro"">To continue our efforts to recovery from the drought and build resilience, the Central Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (CCNDPC) and the UN in Viet Nam are pleased to
issue the <b>Emergency Response Plan (Update on Recovery) 2016/2017</b>. This update is the result of extensive consultations with technical experts from the 18 most affected provinces, NGOs, Red Cross and development partners. It highlights recovery priorities
from now to 2020 on three key components: </span></p>
