state of World Vision's involvement with the <b>All Children Reading Grand
Challenge initiative</b>. SDOs, please pass on the message below to your
respective National Directors for their information.</font>

<div><font size=2 face="Arial">World Vision's investment in the All Children
Reading Grand Challenge (ACR GC) is yielding results and will ultimately
impact our goal of children being "educated for life." Several
of our National Offices are already exploring ways to incorporate our partner
grantee's innovated approaches into other ADPs. This partnership
with USAID and AusAID has greatly strengthened our relationships at an
agency level and has also opened new doors for our National Directors to
engage with their local USAID and AusAID missions/posts. We trust
that you will take advantage of this unique opportunity. Included
in this email is the ACR Round 1 grantee name, country and management entity
(attached at end of message). We encourage you not only to meet with
USAID and AusAID in-country, but to also reach out to other ACR-funded
projects to learn more about what they are doing. If you would like the
name of any grantee point of contact and/or USAID Education Advisor in
country, please contact Rebecca Leege, ACR Grants Officer.</font>

<br><font size=2 face="Arial">With nearly one year underway in Round 1,
the ACR Partners have expanded their focus and launched a second competitive
funding round. </font><font size=2 color=blue face="Arial"><b><u>Round
2 will have a greater focus on the use of technology to advance early grade
reading programs, with the primary focus on improving literacy in the first
three years of primary education through science and tech-based improvements
in teaching/learning materials and the quality/accessibility of educational
data. Round 2 will focus on four key areas: <i>language of instruction,
educational data, community engagement and disability. </u></i><u>A unique
aspect of Round 2 is that, in addition to a general grant competition,
the ACR GC will be launching several prize challenges.</u></b></font><font size=2 face="Arial">
We hope to stimulate new innovations through this approach. An initial
announcement has been placed on grants.gov (</font><a href="http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/search-grants.html?keywords=All"><font size=2 face="Arial">http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/search-grants.html?keywords=All</font></a><font size=2 face="Arial">
Children Reading). </font><font size=2 color=blue face="Arial"><b><u>WV
National Offices are unable to access funding for the prize challenges
and grant competitions,</u></b></font><font size=2 face="Arial"> as this
would represent a conflict of interest; however, I strongly encourage you
to advise your network to engage in this funding opportunity, particularly
groups that may not have previously worked with the ACR GC. Please feel
free to share the announcement below with your partners in country.
As before, partners who seek funding would be requested to work with WV
National offices and work in our ADP areas in order to maximize our contribution
to the well-being of children that we already serve and we have an opportunity
to learn from them.</font>

(US and Australia) anticipate launching a second competitive funding round
for the All Children Reading Grand Challenge for Development (</font><a href=www.allchildrenreading.org><font size=2 color=#0062e1 face="Arial">www.allchildrenreading.org</font></a><font size=2 color=#0062e1 face="Arial">)
in Fall 2013, which will focus on innovative uses of technology to advance
the impact, scale and/or sustainability of early grade reading programs.
The anticipated funding options and themes will include A) a grant competition
and B) prizes to address early grade reading challenges, likely related
to<b> language of instruction, data, community engagement, and disability</b>.
The All Children Reading Grand Challenge for Development is one of several
Grand Challenges for Development (</font><a href=www.usaid.gov/grandchallenges><font size=2 color=#0062e1 face="Arial">www.usaid.gov/grandchallenges</font></a><font size=2 color=#0062e1 face="Arial">)
which USAID is supporting with a variety of international stakeholders.
The Grand Challenges model is designed to inspire passionate and creative
solutions to problems that have not been effectively addressed by traditional
approaches. With a focus on robust, relevant, cost-effective, and scalable
solutions grounded in Science and Technology, a Grand Challenge is an opportunity
to foster new ideas, engage new actors, and advance innovation across the
globe. </font></div></table>

<br><font size=2 face="Arial">One last update is that World Vision US,
on behalf of the ACR GC Partners, has been asked to be the Fund Manager
for Round 2. As the Round 2 Fund Manager, WV will provide appropriate
coordination, support and management of the ACR Round 2 prizes, open calls
and corresponding grants with the final details being worked out this month.
This is a similar role to the one USAID formerly held in Round 1. Overall,
this is a reflection of WV's professionalism in partnership with these
agencies as well as the level of technical expertise it provides to ACR
GC.</font>
