2, 2014 --</span></b><span style="font-size:11pt"> The U.S.
Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with the National
Science Foundation (NSF), has launched the fourth round of their Partnerships
for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) program to support and build
scientific and technical capacity.</span><span style="font-size:11pt"></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11pt;background-image:initial;background-repeat:initial">V</span><span style="font-size:11pt;color:rgb(34,34,34);background-image:initial;background-repeat:initial">ietnam earned three
awards for projects on water governance and biodiversity research in the third
round of the program when the </span><span style="font-size:11pt"><a href="http://sites.nationalacademies.org/PGA/dsc/peerscience/PGA_145782">successful projects were announced in August</a>. <span style="background-image:initial;background-repeat:initial">Altogether, Vietnamese
researchers have won eight PEER awards since the launch of the program in 2011.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11pt;color:rgb(34,34,34)">“I am so
pleased that Vietnamese scientists have been successful in getting involved in
and winning research awards from the PEER program, which promotes scientific
cooperation between developing countries like Vietnam and the United States to
address shared global challenges,” said USAID Mission Director Joakim Parker. “</span><span style="font-size:11pt">We recognize that through these
partnerships, we hope to solve problems more quickly and build long-term
partnerships between U.S. and Vietnamese universities that will extend beyond
the length of the grant. This year’s PEER focus on biodiversity is
particularly timely given Vietnam’s Tier 1 designation for biodiversity in
USAID’s recent global Biodiversity Policy.”</span><span style="font-size:11pt"></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11pt">PEER program is a
competitive grants program that invites scientists in select countries,
including Vietnam, to apply for funds to support research and capacity-building
activities in partnership with their NSF-funded collaborators to address a wide
range of critical development challenges.</span><span style="font-size:11pt"></span></p>

Chương trình Quan hệ Đối tác nhằm Thúc đẩy Tham gia Nghiên cứu (PEER) để hỗ trợ
và nâng cao năng lực nghiên cứu khoa học và kỹ thuật.</span></span></p>

tài trợ nghiên cứu cho các dự án về quản lý nước và nghiên cứu đa dạng sinh học
khi </span><span style="font-size:11pt"><a href="http://sites.nationalacademies.org/PGA/dsc/peerscience/PGA_145782">danh sách các dự án được nhận tài trợ đợt 3</a> được công bố trong tháng 8/2014. Tổng cộng, các nhà nghiên
cứu Việt Nam đã nhận được 8 khoản tài trợ nghiên cứu từ chương trình PEER kể từ
khi chương trình bắt đầu năm 2011.</span></p>

khoản tài trợ nghiên cứu từ chương trình PEER, một chương trình thúc đẩy hợp
tác khoa học giữa các quốc gia đang phát triển như Việt Nam với Hoa Kỳ nhằm
giải quyết những thách thức chung toàn cầu” Giám đốc USAID Việt Nam Joakim
Parker cho biết. “Chúng tôi nhận thấy rằng thông qua những quan hệ đối tác này,
chúng tôi hi vọng sẽ giải quyết vấn đề nhanh hơn và xây dựng được quan hệ đối
tác lâu dài giữa các trường đại học Việt Nam và Hoa Kỳ để các quan hệ này tiếp
tục được duy trì và phát huy ngay cả khi hết tài trợ.</span><span style="font-size:11pt"> Đợt tài trợ vừa qua của chương trình PEER
tập trung vào đa dạng sinh học cũng đúng thời điểm Việt Nam được lựa chọn ưu
tiên hỗ trợ bậc 1 về bảo tồn đa dạng sinh học trong Chính sách về Đa dạng sinh
học toàn cầu của USAID được công bố gần đây.”</span><span style="font-size:11pt"></span></p>

chương trình tài trợ cạnh tranh dành cho các nhà khoa học từ một số quốc gia (bao
gồm Việt Nam) nộp đề xuất xin tài trợ cho các hoạt động nghiên cứu và xây dựng
năng lực có sự phối hợp cùng các cộng sự là các nhà khoa học Hoa Kỳ do NSF tài
trợ nhằm giải quyết một loạt các thách thức phát triển quan trọng.</span><span style="font-size:11pt"></span></p>
