Dear All,****

** **

Would you please give your support to Tam Dao Bear Rescue Centre beyond the
decision on eviction of the government? More than 100 bears should be
rescued and protected at Tam Dao Bear Rescue Centre at present.****

Please see the below emails and link for your reference.****

Dear all****

** **

You may know that our project is dealing with decentralised waste water
management. During our work we have learned about the good work done by the
Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre in Tam Dao (they are operating a decentralised
waste water treatment plant; that is how we came across them). It is only a
2-hours drive from Hanoi.****

This centre is fighting to stop the infamous moon bear farming in Vietnam,
where currently some 3500 moon bears are held for their bile, which is
extracted from the living (!) animal through a hose. On top, an unknown
number of bears are held by private owners, under even worse conditions.****

This disgusting business involves many high ranking Vietnamese officials,
who have developed a bizarre fondness of drinking bile from bears. I
myself have seen a bear held in captivity behind a high-ranking official’s
house, held under terrible conditions. He boasted how much bile he was able
to extract a month, being worth hundreds of USD. It was an experience I
won’t forget. Working in the field, I have been offered several times bear
bile, because “it’s good for men!”.****

** **

We all know that protection of animals and wildlife conservation is a
widely unknown and unpopular concept in Vietnam. But rhinos being poached
in Africa for their horns and smuggled to Vietnam are not the only damage
to wildlife triggered by a super-rich or high-ranking group of people in
Vietnam’s society. ****

The centre is presently taking care of some 100 bears, freed from their
torturers, and now held under medical surveillance until they have
recovered. I believe it is an important institution to spread the word
about wildlife protection. If there is a country that urgently needs IEC on
wildlife protection, it is certainly Vietnam. ****

Unfortunately, the Vietnamese government now decided to close down the
centre in Tam Dao. As for the reasons and what can be done, please refer to
the mail and links below.****

I would much appreciate if some of you would like to join the group of
supporters or send a letter to the Prime Minister, as suggested below.
Especially those of you who work in the environmental or “green” sector, or
in an official function may have a voice. Maybe we can sit together and
discuss things further?****

Best regards****

Hi Mr. Frank,****

** **

I'm Huong - Education Officer in Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre. ****

** **

We met this afternoon when you came here.****

** **

We really appreciate your concern and supports to our centre.****

** **

I already sent your contact to Mr. Tuan Bendixsen - Director of Animals
Asia in Vietnam for further contact.****

** **

I would like to put here the call from our organization relating to our
threat of replacing: ****

** **

Our sanctuary in Vietnam is under threat of eviction. While the issue has
been going on for a while, and Tuan Bendixsen (Director in Vietnam) with
the Vietnam team have been doing everything they can to fight it, the
situation came to a head last Friday when we were given notice to leave by
the Department of Defence and MARD. ****

We all know that greed and corruption is behind this incredibly disgraceful
decision and we're going to do everything we can to fight it. We have
launched a campaign encouraging people to write a letter to the Prime
Minister as he is the only one who can overturn the decision. If there is
enough public support generated and this becomes a serious issue for the
Prime Minister, there is a good chance that he will act on it.

We urgently need your support to give this campaign momentum.****
