Thanh niên góp sức bảo vệ động vật hoang dã

Hà Nội, ngày 9 tháng 12 năm 2013- vào ngày 7/12/2013 hàng trăm bạn trẻ đã ký cam kết bảo vệ động vật hoang dã và đăng ký trở thành thành viên của lực lượng xung kích tuyên truyền bảo vệ các loài động vật hoang dã tại Việt Nam.

Hoạt động này nằm trong khuôn khổ hợp tác giữa Cục Bảo tồn đa dạng sinh học và Trung ương Đoàn TNCSHCM trong dự án “Tăng cường công tác bảo tồn đa dạng sinh học thông qua cải cách chính sách và thay đổi thực trạng tiêu thụ các loài động vật hoang dã ở Việt Nam” (dự án WLC) do Quỹ Môi trường toàn cầu (GEF) tài trợ thông qua Ngân hàng Thế giới (WB).

Bà Hoàng Thị Thanh Nhàn, Phó Cục trưởng Cục Bảo tồn đa dạng sinh học cho biết “Nâng cao nhận thức nhằm giảm tiêu thụ trái phép đối với các loài động vật hoang dã là một trong các hợp phần chính của dự án. Thanh niên chiếm gần một nửa dân số nước ta và bằng các hoạt động tình nguyện, các bạn trẻ đã có những đóng góp quý báu cho sự phát triển của xã hội. Chúng tôi rất vui khi được làm việc cùng những bạn trẻ để đấu tranh với những hành vi tiêu thụ trái phép động vật hoang dã, đẩy mạnh truyền thông nhằm bảo vệ động vật hoang dã, bảo tồn đa dạng sinh học”.

Hơn 200 sinh viên, học sinh đến từ các trường đại học và trung học đã đăng ký trở thành những tình nguyện viên đầu tiên của dự án. Họ đã cùng ký tên vào những tấm phiếu cam kết in hình những loài vật nguy cấp cần bảo vệ của Việt Nam và đóng góp những thông điệp bảo vệ tài nguyên động vật hoang dã. Tất cả các phiếu cam kết được dính trên một tấm pa-nô lớn in hình cánh rừng với ý nghĩa đưa các con vật về với nhà của chúng. 

Ngoài ra, sự kiện còn bao gồm các hoạt động như chiếu các đoạn phim ngắn, trưng bày các áp phích, tờ rơi và các tài liệu truyền thông khác…mang thông điệp bảo vệ và nâng cao nhận thức về buôn bán và tiêu thụ động vật hoang dã và sự cần thiết phải bảo vệ và bảo tồn các loài động vật hoang dã tại Việt Nam. Khu trưng bày thu hút sự quan tâm chú ý không chỉ của các bạn thanh niên tình nguyện, đại diện của các cơ quan tham dự sự kiện mà cả những người dân tới công viên.

Ông Vũ Minh Lý, Giám đốc Trung tâm Thông tin Nguồn lực Tình nguyện Việt Nam thuộc Trung ương Đoàn Thanh niên Cộng sản HCM cho biết “Chúng tôi rất tự hào được góp sức cùng các cơ quan chức năng trong nỗ lực giảm tiêu thụ trái phép các loài động vật hoang dã ở Việt Nam. Các bạn trẻ khi hiểu được vấn đề, họ sẽ tạo ra sự thay đổi bằng chính những hành động thiết thực nhất. Với mạng lưới thanh niên tình nguyện rộng khắp trên cả nước, lực lượng Đoàn thanh niên sẽ không chỉ nâng cao nhận thức về bảo tồn động vật hoang dã cho chính các bạn trẻ mà cho cả cộng đồng xã hội”.

“Voi và các loài hoang dã khác có quyền được sống và được bảo vệ. Con người không có quyền cướp đi những quyền đó vì những mục đích phi nhân đạo”

“Chúng ta cần bảo vệ động vật hoang dã cho các thế hệ tương lai”

“Con người và động vật hoang dã cần sống hòa thuận để đảm bảo sự cân bằng sinh thái”.

Young people make a valuable contribution to wildlife protection 

Hanoi, December 9, 2013 –On December 7th, hundreds of young peoplepledged their support for wildlife conservation and registered to becomemembers of a pioneering force of volunteers advocating for wildlife protection issues in Vietnam.

The activities were organized by Biodiversity Conservation Agency (BCA), in collaboration with the Central Youth Union, to strengthen the participation of volunteers in the protection of wildlife, as part of celebrations for International Volunteer Day at Thong Nhat Park in Hanoi. 

The event was the first of a series of upcoming cooperative communication activities between BCA and the Central Youth Union, for the project "Wildlife Consumption in Vietnam: Reforming Policies and Practices to Strengthen Biodiversity Conservation" (WLC Project), funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) via the World Bank.

“Building public awareness to change behavior is a major componentof our project to reduce demand for illegal wildlife consumption,” said Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh Nhan, Deputy Director of BCA. “Young people represent almost half our population, and through volunteering activities, they make a valuable contribution to social development. We are very happy to work with passionate young people to spread important messages and strengthen the communications about wildlife protection, biodiversity conservation and not consuming wildlife products.”

More than 200 university and high school students enlisted to become the project’s first volunteers, writing wildlife conservation messages on cards featuring images of endangered wildlife species in Vietnam and attaching them to a large message board. 

The event also featured a series of short films and an exhibit displaying banners, posters, and other information materials, to raise awareness of the issues of illegal wildlife consumption, trade and the need for wildlife protection and conservation in Vietnam. The display also attracted the attention of older people and young children from various agencies attending the event and visiting the park on that day.

“We are proud to join with the government’s efforts to reduce illegal wildlife consumption in Vietnam,” said Mr. Vu Minh Ly, Director of the Vietnam Volunteer Information Resource Center (VVIRC) of the Central Youth Union. “Young people understand the issues, and are enthusiastic to help make a difference. With a large network of members throughout the country, Youth Union can raise awareness for wildlife protection not just amongst young people, but within the wider community as well.”

Some of the hundreds of conservation messages shared during the event included the following:

“Elephants and other wild animals have the right to live and to be protected. People do not have the right to take that away for inhumane purposes.”

“We need to protect wildlife so that future generations have the chance to know them as well.”

“Humans and wildlife need to learn to live in harmony to maintain ecological balance.”
