*JOB OPPORTUNITY*: Save Vietnam’s Wildlife is looking for an experienced
field researcher to be principal investigator for wildlife and social
survey projects

*Position title*: Field Research Officer
*Main duty station*: 30-40% at SVW office, 60-70% of time in the field.



*An Introduction to Save Vietnam’s Wildlife*

Save Vietnam’s Wildlife is a national Non-Profit Organization in Vietnam
that was founded on the critical need for more effective solutions to
secure a future for Vietnamese wildlife. At the core of SVW’s program of
work in Viet Nam is a collaborative partnership with Cuc Phuong National
Park to support the management and operation of the Carnivore and Pangolin
Conservation Program (CPCP).

*Our Mission*

Save Vietnam’s Wildlife is committed to protecting and increasing
populations of endangered wildlife in Vietnam by rescuing threatened
animals, protecting entire populations and ensuring secured habitats. We
act to identify and select the best solutions which encompass high
conservation value, are scientifically based, consider human requirements
and empower people to take informed action.

*Duration*: Permanent position
*Expected starting date*: As soon as possible
*Salary*: To be discussed
*Work place*: 30-40% at SVW office, 60-70% of time in the field.



*Responsibilities of Field Researcher*

The Field Research Officer will be acting as principal investigator and
team leader in specific Research Team projects and supporting the team in
other general duties. Responsibilities include:

   - Design, co-ordinate and conduct field and social surveys and
   monitoring for SVW priority species in target areas throughout Vietnam
   - Write grant proposals and reports to a high standard and on a timely
   basis
   - Produce International journal-standard papers from survey work
   - Help keep Research Team databases up-to-date
   - Carry out literature and museum-based research projects to compile
   reviews on the distribution, status and ecology of SVW priority species.
   - Develop and implement training courses’ contents and seminars for
   rangers and students in Vietnam
   - Develop conservation initiatives, based on the results of field
   research to improve the conservation of wildlife
   - Use information gained from field research to improve ex-situ
   conservation techniques

*Professional qualifications*

·         BSc degree in Biology, Conservation, Zoology or a related subject

·         Considerable practical experience in field (preferably wildlife)
surveys

·         Scientific writing including journal papers, grants and reports

·         Good English language skills, both spoken and written



*Desirable personal qualities*

   - Patience, tolerance and flexibility
   - Ability to take the lead on specific projects, overseeing staff,
   partners and contractors in the field
   - Commitment to team work, coaching and mentoring other people
   - Prepared to work with limited resources within a challenging
   environment
   - Motivation, energy and enthusiasm
   - Must be Vietnamese
   - Strong networking and advocacy skills
   - Good organizational and reporting skills
   - Ability to cope with pressure/meet deadlines
   - Willingness to undertake frequent travel
