The UN Development Program (UNDP) has decided to fund $6.4 million for a project to strengthen access to justice and protect rights for the poor and vulnerable groups in Vietnam. The sum will help the country’s ministry of justice and some legal agencies to carry out legal reform programs from now to 2014, the Thoi Bao Kinh Te newspaper reported Nov 30. The goal to reach a middle income nation will also bring challenges for Vietnam’s legal and judicial reforms, UNDP Country Director in Vietnam Setsuko Yamazaki said at the launching ceremony Nov 27. The project is part of the UNDP’s continued commitment to supporting the Southeast Asian country’s legal reform efforts, she added.
