Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a plan to add the instruction on the state’s fight against corruption to education and training curricula at schools. The move aims to raise awareness of students, public employees and officials in fighting corruption to regain public confidence in the role of the Party and Government, the Lao Dong newspaper reported Dec. 7. Under the plan, an education program on preventing and fighting corruption will be launched on a national scale based on a review of the results of the pilot plan in 2011. The instructional materials will focus on the causes, negative consequences of corruption and attitude of students towards corrupt officials and staff who work for government agencies. Vietnam detected 243 corruption cases with 520 involvers between Oct 2008 and Oct 2009, which caused loss of estimated VND700 billion ($39.2 million).
