Short-term research assistant position in conservation focused study
Description
An opportunity has arisen for an undergraduate/post-graduate student or recent graduate to join a research trip in Northern Vietnam in collaboration with Imperial College London, Fauna & Flora International and the Center for Plant Conservation in Vietnam from the 30/05/2018 – 05/07/2018.
The research is focused on understanding the trade in certain botanical goods in Northern Vietnam. The focal genus currently receives relatively little research attention - yet are facing enormous threats to their long-term survival. This horizon scanning project is an important step in enabling more evidence-based decisions to be made about the conservation of this important genus.
The successful candidate will gain valuable field research experience and collaborate with a number of institutions in the facilitation of the study. The successful candidate will also be recognised as a named collaborator on any papers submitted to journal articles for publication.
The research will be based in Hanoi, with extended trips to at least 2 field sites. The data collection will include household surveys and interviews, and translation services will be required.
What is provided by the project
- A stipend of 15,000,000 VND to be paid to the research assistant.
- Return transport from Hanoi to the field sites.
- Accommodation at the field sites and in Hanoi (if candidate is not normally resident there).
Essential Skills
- Good written and oral skills in both Vietnamese and English.
- Good translation skills.
- Ability to commit to 5 weeks full time work, sometimes outside normal working hours as the need arises.
Preferred Skills
- Previous experience in social research techniques.
- Interest in conservation, the wildlife trade and/or horticulture.
