SNV Vietnam is looking for a Sustainable Markets Senior Advisor - Agriculture Sector, Based in Hanoi with frequent travels (National consultancy contract).
SNV Netherlands Development Organisation has been working in Vietnam since 1995. Using market based approaches, SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water & sanitation, and REDD+.
SNV is engaged in the agriculture sector implementing Sustainable Markets, Inclusive Business (IB) and Climate Smart Agriculture programmes and projects. Under the Sustainable Markets Programme, SNV is working from a market-based approach including certification mechanisms for sustainable crop production in coffee, cassava, pepper, tea, spices; among others. As a part of these mechanisms SNV creates and support market linkages among small farmers and private sector companies, including commodity traders, food processors and/or agribusiness. At last, an important component of this approach is to scale-up and leverage social impact trough national, provincial and local partnerships in the public sector.
Responsibilities:
- Implement and manage a portfolio of projects related to sustainable crop production in coffee, pepper, tea, cassava and spices; following standards and certification mechanisms.
- Implement project management activities including budget forecasting and monitoring, work planning and other result-based management activities.
- Manage, support and supervise technical staff implementing and coordinating activities in the field.
- Design and implement certification training activities for farmers and farmer groups
- Develop and maintain effective national and regional networks with relevant stakeholders in the public and private sector related to sustainable crop production in Vietnam
- Contribute to feedback and coaching processes, monitoring and evaluation of achieved results for clients and SNV; lead the collective learning; be responsible for timely and high quality evaluation processes
- Support other SNV advisory team members on IB, value chain and sustainable market assignments
- Implement and support monitoring and evaluation, knowledge management and business development activities with other SNV areas and teams.
Candidate profile:
- Vietnamese citizen
- Masters Degree in economics, business administration, international trade or equivalent
- Proven track record and relevant experience working in the agriculture sector of Vietnam with emphasis on standards, certification mechanisms and farmers capacity building.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience, including experience in private or development organization on business development and market-based approach in agriculture.
- Knowledge of commodities and special commodities markets, connecting Vietnam or Asia
- Experience in value chain analysis and business plan development and preparation of technical documents
- Entrepreneurial skills and attitude, as well as commitment to work for clients and in remote areas
- A proven track record working in a multi-cultural and diverse environment
- Strong negotiation skills, leadership and results oriented
- Excellent communication skills in Vietnamese and English, both spoken and written
- Willingness to travel regularly to other provinces of Vietnam, and other countries in Asia
- Good computer skills in MS-applications
Contract Duration: SNV Vietnam offers one-year associate consultancy contract with the possibility of extension and a competitive salary package.
