The 2013 selection round for Australia Awards Scholarships (formerly Australian Development Scholarships – ADS) intake 2014 was launched on 1 February 2013.
Up to 250 Australia Awards Scholarships will be available in Vietnam for Doctoral and Masters degrees commencing in 2014. These are long-term development scholarships providing citizens of Vietnam with opportunities to obtain postgraduate qualifications at Australian tertiary institutions. Awards are reserved for central government officials, local government officials, people working on development issues, academics (including English Language teachers) and researchers.
Australia Awards Scholarships are aligned with Australia’s development assistance in Vietnam, targeting human resource gaps in identified priority sectors. They aim to provide awardees with the skills and knowledge to drive change and influence economic and social development.
The priority areas of study for Australia Awards Scholarships in Vietnam are:
- Agriculture and Applied Sciences, Animal Husbandry, Community Development, Development Studies, Economics (International Trade, Agricultural and Development Economics), Disability, Education (Management, Distance Education, TESOL), Environment (Resources Management, Climate Change, Waste Management), Financial Management, Forestry, Governance (Public Administration, Public Policy, Law), Gender Studies, Health (Public Health, Nursing, Epidemiology), Human Resources Development, Human Rights, Infrastructure (Project Management, Engineering, Urban Planning), Marine Sciences, Social Work, Transnational Crime (Human Trafficking, Drug Control).
- AusAID offers awards on the basis of merit, transparency and equal access. We strongly encourage applications from disadvantaged rural areas, ethnic minorities and people with disability.

Change of names of scholarships programs delivered by AusAID
AusAID recently changed the name of all scholarships programs delivered by AusAID under the Australia Awards, most notably the Australian Development Scholarships. These changes will in no way impact the conditions of the Awards, or the way in which they are programmed and delivered. The name changes for scholarships and fellowships (effective immediately) available in Vietnam are as follows:
- Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) is now Australia Awards Scholarships.
- Australian Leadership Awards Fellowships (ALAF) is now Australia Awards Fellowships.
- Australian Leadership Awards Scholarships (ALAS)—is now Australia Awards Leadership Program which will still be offered to 200 recipients of Australia Awards Scholarships worldwide.
