Vietnamese, Japanese, and Belgian entomologists have discovered a number of new species of insects in Vietnam, announced a representative of the Vietnam National Museum of Nature (VNMN) on May 27. In particular, the VNMN’s scientists and their Japanese peers found specimens of a new beetle species in the northern province of Lao Cai. The new insect, which is the second species of its genus in Vietnam, was named Rhyparus vietnamicus Ochi, Kusui, Pham, 2018. Meanwhile, the VNMN and the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences new species of the planthopper genus Sogana Matsumura, 1914. The two, namely Sogana bachmana Constant & Pham, 2019, and Sogana baviana Constant & Pham, 2019, were discovered in Bach Ma National Park of the central province of Thua Thien-Hue and Ba Vi National Park of the capital city of Hanoi, respectively.
