The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) are working on the urban flood resilience and drainage program for adaptation to climate change (FPP), costing between EUR13million and EUR15 million ($14million-$16 million), in Vietnam’s 13 Mekong Delta provinces. The program’s executive Tim McGrath gave his notification while meeting with officials of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on May 11. This new program, running during the 2021-2025 period, will include three parts with the first on state management that will continue aiding regional connectivity, the second on coordination mechanisms for the region, and the third on inter-provincial infrastructure, he elaborated. At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Dao Anh Dung noted several issues facing the Mekong Delta namely transport, logistics, irrigation, and anti-erosion and subsidence; thus inter-provincial projects are necessary. He recommended the GIZ re-mull over mechanisms and policies on regional connectivity-council- management to help solve these problems, vowing that the City is ready to join hands with the Germany organization on the project.
