Some Dutch experts have proposed a public-private partnership project for sustainable flood prevention in Vietnam’s southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) with total investment of closely $1.26 billion, Vietnam Investment Review (VIR) newswire quoted Consul General of the Netherlands in HCMC Carel Richter as saying. The project will be divided into two phases. The first one contains multifunctional dykes and drainage canals integrated with public spots, and the second component is to set up a 200-hectare rainwater reservoir containing rainwater, the diplomat elaborated. The Dutch side is ready to move forward with the partnership to carry out pre-feasibility study of the project by the end of this year then the study may take another two years to complete. In 2016-2020, HCMC has planned to pitch VND26 trillion ($1.12 billion) in preventing flooding, including an anti-flooding project worth VND10 trillion under the public-private partnership (PPP) investment format, Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Saigon) reported.
