The United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) is evaluating for approval of the non-refundable capital for the Bac Lieu liquefied natural gas (LNG)-to-power project in southern Vietnam, local media reported. The information was revealed at a meeting on August 3 to review the progress of the 3,200 megawatts (MW) power project after six months of implementation. At the meeting, Singapore-headquartered Delta Offshore Energy Pte, Ltd (DOE), the investor of the project, and the consultancy unit Delphos International said that they have completed and sent a document to request non-refundable capital from the USTDA. The power project was added to a program of the U.S. government in October 2019 to seek funding. Besides, the investor has also worked with its partner to carry out related works for the LNG terminal, gas pipeline, sea transportation plan for equipment, LNG supply sources, power plant, and insurance. In the last six months, the preparation works for the project still follow schedule, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade said. However, the complicated developments of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may still affect the progress of the project. Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Bac Lieu province Duong Thanh Trung urged the investor to work with local authorities to quickly complete procedures for the projects to meet the construction schedule and completion deadline in 2024.
