The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is launching two new projects worth $74 million to help Vietnam deal with the global climate crisis, according to the latest announcement of USAID. The first project named the Sustainable Forest Management project, implemented by DAI Global with a $36-million fund, will minimize carbon emissions in Vietnam caused by deforestation, forest degradation, and weak timber plantation management practices. Meanwhile, the other, Biodiversity Conservation project, with a budget totaling $38 million and is implemented by the World Wildlife Fund, will protect critical ecosystems to create resilience against the impacts of climate change, maintain and improve forest quality, and protect and stabilize wildlife populations. These activities build upon USAID’s ten-year partnership with the Vietnamese government, the private sector, and other partners to conserve forests and biodiversity, combat wildlife trafficking, and curb environmental pollution to mitigate the effects of climate change.
