The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will support the deployment of advanced distributed energy solutions, such as rooftop solar, electric vehicles, waste-to-energy, and battery storage systems, in Vietnam’s central Danang City, said USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Ann Marie Yastishock. Ms. Yastishock added that the USAID will work with Danang City and relevant authorities to implement advanced energy efficiency solutions in public lighting, cold storage, and other industrial processes. These solutions are expected to contribute to the long-term mitigation of the impact of climate change on Danang City and its citizens. On June 30, the USAID coordinated with the municipal People’s Committee to launch a project providing technical support for urban energy security in Vietnam, with three goals in Danang City, namely (i) deploying at least 40 megawatts (MW) of advanced, distributed energy systems, (ii) mobilizing at least $60 million in public and private investment for advanced, distributed urban energy systems, and (iii) demonstrating and/or commercializing at least five innovative solutions to address urban energy and environment issues.
