Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has approved a proposal by the People’s Committee in the central Quang Tri province to stage a “Festival for peace,” Head of the provincial Committee’s office Nguyen Canh Hung confirmed. The event aims to honor the values of peace and spread messages of peace harbored by Vietnamese people and peace-loving folks worldwide. It is expected to take place in July every two years, Vice Chairman of the provincial committee Hoang Nam revealed. Notably, the initiative for the festival organization was strongly lauded by the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink on his visit to the province in August last year, in which he also promised to join the event. Since 1975, Quang Tri has had 8,540 victims of mines and unexploded, of whom 31% are children, according to a report by the Ministry of National Defense in April last year. Additionally, the province is home to 13,174 Agent Orange victims who have affected the third generation. (Nhan Dan, VOV, Dau Tu)
