Vietnam raised VND13 trillion ($560.3 million) for mine action in 2010-2020, including nearly $100 million of foreign aid, Major General Tran Trung Hoa, general director of the Vietnam National Mine Action Center (VNMAC).
Major General Hoa gave the information at a conference on June 16 in Hanoi, aimed to review the bombs and mines-related accident prevention program.
During the ten-year period, the country cleaned up 485,000 hectares of land contaminated with bombs and mines. At present, 5.6 million hectares of land remains contaminated with these weapons, equal to 17.71% of the country's area.
Besides, Vietnam supported more than 5,000 victims of unexploded ordnance and raised the awareness of over three million students about the risks of bombs and mines. (VOV [1], Dang Cong San [2], QDND [3])
