On behalf of Vietnam, Vice Head of the Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Administration Hoang Duc Cuong attended an online meeting hosted by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on February 3 to improve the weather forecast capacity, state media reported. The meeting featured General Secretary of the WMO Petteri Taalas, along with 162 members of the organization. Delegates discussed the WMO’s Strategy in 2021-2023 with five targets. Speaking at the event, Mr. Cuong stressed that Vietnam commits to supporting two programs of WMO in the region, including the Severe Weather Forecasting Demonstration Project (SWFDP) and the Southeast Asia Flash Flood Guidance System (SeAFFGS). Vietnam also wants to receive technology supports and experiences from other countries in improving the forecast capacity, he added. The WMO is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) responsible for promoting international cooperation on atmospheric science, climatology, hydrology, and geophysics, with 191 member states.
