Doctors from Binh Dan Hospital in Vietnam’s southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City have recently visited the Philippines to perform robot-assisted sleeve gastrectomy operations, showing their technique to the local doctors, state media reported. The trip was made at the invitation of Manila-based Philippine General Hospital, one of the biggest of its kind in the country with 1,500 beds. The robotic surgeries were conducted on October 24 for two obese patients weighing over 130 kilograms each. The next day, the Vietnamese doctors also introduced advanced robotic operating skills targeting the digestive system. Binh Dan Hospital is a pioneer for robotic operations for adults in Vietnam, carrying out over 800 robot-assisted surgeries over the last three years. It has gradually turned itself into a training center for such operation in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
