Intern with ILO
The International Labour Organisation is a specialized agency of the United Nations with a mandate to promote social justice and improve working and living conditions for people everywhere. For its project “Labour Market project: Better Information for creating jobs and developing skills in Vietnam” (2008-2010) is being implemented in partnership with the Government of Viet Nam (Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA)) and funded by the European Union. The Project is seeking for a qualified candidate working as an INTERN for six months.
The Project is preparing a number of research works aimed to provide evidence-based policy implications for the formulation of a national employment strategy, as well as to enhance the relevance of the Labour Market Information System (LMIS), which is being established by Project counterparts with the technical assistance of the ILO. The research plan encompasses the study of a wide range of socio-economic issues, analysed with the lenses of quantity and quality of employment as a central objective of Government strategies and plans.
Under supervision of the ILO international and national experts, the intern will support the ILO to review the framework of policies and institutions established by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) and by other line ministries in charge of issues affecting the labour market. Specifically, the intern will carry out the following tasks:
- Participate in the review of country-based studies;
- Collect relevant information through Government legislative acts, regulations and press-releases available on websites;
- Contribute to the analysis of specific aspects of Vietnam labour market;
- Contribute to the review of policies and institutions, including the legislative framework affecting employment-related aspects, making use of ILO sources and databases;
- Assist to prepare policy implications and recommendations;
- Identify good practices of policies, measures and programmes targeting quantity and quality of employment at the regional and country levels.
- Participate in the dissemination of knowledge developed through updates of the Project’s website;
- Contribute to establish of a network of national employment and labour market experts through web-based tools.
- Participate in the design, monitoring and evaluation of learning programmes to increase the capacity of Project counterparts to formulate a strategy on employment;
- Assist ILO staff to prepare training material and technical guidelines
Qualifications required
- University degree in economics or related social sciences, complemented with a Master' Degree or equivalent experience gained from previous working positions;
- Excellent command of the English and of the Vietnamese languages;
- Good computer skills and excellent command of Internet-based researches;
- Ability to carry out assignments in accordance with instructions and guidelines;
- Ability analytical tools required for the review of official policy documents;
- Ability to summarize findings in a concise and clear way;
- Good communication and organizational skills, as well as other core competencies required to work in the ILO;
