AFD to Finance Metro Route 3 in Vietnam Hanoi: Global CEO

The Agence Française de Développement (AFD) will provide funding for the Nhon-Hanoi Station urban railway project, the capital city’s Metro Route No. 3, said AFD’s Global CEO Philippe Orliange.

Mr. Orliange made the commitment during his visit to Vietnam on May 12-13 to discuss France’s support for the commitments made by Vietnam at COP26 and to define AFD’s intervention priorities and future support. He, however, did not reveal the specific value of the funding.

Hanoi is considering putting the metro line into operation in December, said Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh.

Currently, 74% of the workload at the project has been completed, including 95% of the elevated section, which is set to be operational later this year. It will run through eight lifted stations and four others underground with a total length of 12.5 kilometers.

The project receives funding from the official development assistance of the French government, AFD, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the country’s state budget. (NLD, www.afd.fr, TBTCVN, Vietnam Plus)
