Nearly 2M Vietnamese Children Affected by Floods, Landslides: UNICEF
Nearly two million children in Vietnam, along with four million others in Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand, have been affected by floods and landslides caused by Typhoon Yagi, as reported by UNICEF.
The organization noted that the typhoon has severely disrupted access to essential services such as clean water, education, and healthcare, with the hardest-hit areas spread across Southeast Asia.
In Vietnam, children are particularly impacted by the lack of educational access, social support programs, and school nutrition initiatives, UNICEF stressed.
To mitigate these effects, UNICEF, in collaboration with relief partners, is delivering emergency supplies, including clean drinking water, sanitation materials, and medical equipment. They are also providing mental health support and educational tools to help children continue their studies and regain normalcy in safe environments.
UNICEF has also pledged to work closely with partners on long-term recovery plans focused on children’s well-being after the floods subside.
