Vietnam Ranked among World's Least Active Nations: UN Population Fund

Vietnam ranks among the top ten countries with the most sedentary populations, the United Nations Population Fund said.

Data from the Ministry of Health’s Department of Preventive Medicine revealed that 30% of Vietnamese adults lack physical activity, with the nation's youth ranked below standard in terms of physical endurance and strength.

The General Department of Sports and Physical Training reported that by the end of 2021, only one-third of the population regularly exercised and only one-quarter of households engaged in sports activities, which is considered low by experts.

A 2019 study by the National Institute of Nutrition also found that the average Vietnamese walks just 3,660 steps per day, while office workers average only 600 steps per day, far below the World Health Organization's recommendation of 10,000 steps.
