Vietnam Urged to OK Feasibility Study for WB-funded Fisheries Project in Jun
Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) is expected to appraise and approve the feasibility study for the Sustainable Fisheries Development Project (SFDP), funded by the World Bank (WB), in June, a WB official has said.
Ms. Mona Sur, Practice Manager for Environment, Natural Resources and the Blue Economy in the East Asia and Pacific Region at the WB, expressed her expectation at a meeting chaired by Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien in Hanoi on March 26.
Mr. Le Van Hien, head of the MARD’s management board of agricultural projects, informed that the Vietnamese side will appraise and approve the feasibility study, environmental impact assessment report, and compensation and settlement in the first half of this year. From June, the MARD and relevant localities will start discussions with the WB.
He proposed the WB update new technologies of the fisheries sector, such as renewable energy, emission reduction methods, and advanced wastewater treatment technologies.
Deputy Minister Tien affirmed that the project is among the Vietnamese government’s priorities and asked relevant sides to ensure its progress.
State media earlier reported that the project costs a total $115.6 million.
