WHO Official Lauds Vietnam’s Vision on Health Protection, Vaccination Strategy

World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for the Western Pacific Dr. Takeshi Kasai has lauded Vietnam’s vision on the protection of locals’ health and its COVID-19 vaccination strategy, local media reported. The WHO official made the statement at a meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi on January 11. Dr. Takeshi Kasai also expressed his support for Vietnam’s viewpoints about fighting COVID-19, with its focus on coronavirus vaccines and public awareness about anti-pandemic measures. He also highly valued Vietnam’s amendments to respond to the new Omicron variant, such as the provision of medical treatment for asymptomatic patients to avoid overloads at health facilities, affirming that the WHO will continue supporting Vietnam in the fight against COVID-19. PM Chinh, for his part, proposed that the WHO should keep helping Vietnam secure coronavirus vaccines and drugs, and support the country in the procedures of certifying Vietnam-made coronavirus vaccines. He added that the body should also give advice for Vietnam in vaccinating children aged 5-11 and consider receiving some more Vietnamese officials to work at the organization’s regional office.  (Bao Chinh Phu, VTV, Vietnam Plus)
