02 Consultants for Development of TDI and Dioxin Limits
1. Project Overview:
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) has been implementing a GEF/UNDP-funded project entitled “Environmental Remediation of Dioxin Contaminated Hotspots in Viet Nam” since May 2010. MONRE implements this project in close collaboration with the Ministry of Defense (MOD) and people’s committees of three provinces: Dong Nai, Da Nang, Binh Dinh. The project aims “to minimize disruption of ecosystems and health risks for people from environmental releases of TCDD contaminated hotspots”. This will contribute to the broader Goal, which is “to overcome the consequences of toxic chemicals used in the war in Viet Nam”.
Three expected outcomes of the project are: (i) Dioxin in core hotspot areas (Bien Hoa airbase, Da Nang airbase, and Phu Cat airbase) contaminated and remediated; (ii) Land use on and around hotspots eliminates risks and contributes to environmental recovery; (iii) Strengthen national regulations and institutional capacities.
To achieve outcomes 3, the project is providing support to the government to develop regulatory framework, especially limits of dioxin contamination in soils, water and tolerable daily intake (TDI) for dioxin in people and foods in Viet Nam.
The project is currently seeking qualified national consultant to assist the development of TDI for dioxin in people and dioxin limits in some primary foods in Viet Nam. This will help reduce the risk of people’s exposure to dioxin through foods and environment.
2. Objective
Review and analyze legal and technical background information to draft documents on TDI for dioxin in people and other guideline values in Viet Nam.
