Communications Specialist

WUSC is seeking one (1) Vietnamese Communications Specialist to be based in their office in Hanoi with fieldwork conducted throughout Vietnam. The term of the position will be from August 1, 2011 to March 31, 2012.

As their program is expanding, WUSC is facing a growing need to highlight the achievements of our development programs and promote these results to the general public in both Vietnam and in Canada.  The purpose of the assignment is to capture our program activities and achievements through a variety of media formats and prepare these materials for distribution through print and web format.

The Communications  Specialist will work closely with WUSC staff and other volunteers in Vietnam, and will be part of  the Uniterra program Communications and Public Engagement Team which includes staff in Canada and other Uniterra Communications advisors in Africa and South America.  

Responsibilities:
- Research and visit on-going activities conducted through WUSC's programs in Vietnam.
- Review reports from volunteers and partners to draw key program results and achievements.
- Capture testimonies from beneficiaries, partners and volunteers through a variety of ways (e.g. video, audio, print, photos).
- Produce promotional resources and multi-media tools that demonstrate the results and impact of our activities in the community.
- Develop the capacity of the staff and partners to manage and update media materials.
- Train the staff and partners to develop a communications strategy so that the activities initiated can be continued in the future. 
- Coordinate with WUSC volunteers in the field to generate results and tools.
- Work closely with the WUSC field office in Vietnam and the Communication and Public Engagement team in Canada throughout the mandate.    

Professional Requirements:
- University degree in communications, social sciences, international relations or other relevant area
- Experience  in communications and/or social marketing
- Experience in production of a variety of media formats (texts, photos, video, audio)
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Experience working in rural areas
- Ability to design communication plans and tools
- Ability to provide advisory support and training in communications
- Ability to work in an intercultural team environment
- Ability to be self-sufficient and to work as a supportive team member
- Good organizational and self-motivational skills

Terms and Conditions:
Period:  seven month term contract
Starting date:  August 1, 2011
Location:  Based in Hanoi with frequent travel to the field.
