Medical Officer Assistant

Position Description
Location: Hanoi, Vietnam
Start Date: September-October 2011

Overall Responsibilities:
HAIVN seeks a Medical Officer Assistant. The Medical Officer Assistant is responsible for supporting the work of Medical Officers in Hanoi by assisting them in providing training, technical assistance, and supervision in HIV treatment at hospitals and clinics in Hanoi and the Northern Provinces and by assisting them to plan and implement training activities for Vietnamese clinicians throughout the country.
The Medical Officer Assistant is also responsible for translation of training materials as part of the HAIVN curriculum development project. She/He will have the opportunity to receive training in curriculum development and instructional material design. In time, the Medical Officer Assistant may also be responsible for developing and formatting educational and instructional materials for use in HAIVN training activities.
She/He will work under the direct supervision of the Medical Director and Deputy Medical Director (both Hanoi based) and in close cooperation with other staff in Vietnam.

Specific Responsibilities:
Assist Medical Officer(s) to provide regular training and technical assistance in HIV care and treatment in designated hospitals and clinics.
Assist HAIVN Medical Officer(s) to plan and implement provincial and national training courses for Vietnamese physicians and nurses:
- Work with local partners to organize and implement trainings
- Interpret for HAIVN Medical Officers at training courses
Provide planning and coordination for Medical Officer(s) trainings and technical assistance activities
Assist in development of HAIVN HIV training materials
- Translate curricular materials into Vietnamese
- Assist with writing and refining curricular materials
- Participate in regular conference calls with the curriculum development team and consultants in the USA
Provide data entry for training and project evaluation
Reporting: Medical Director (Hanoi based)

Qualifications:
- Degree in Medicine and/or Medical Sciences related
- Experience in HIV/AIDS-related issues is required.
- Ability to develop and maintain close relationships with relevant stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluency in oral and written Vietnamese and English.
- Basic computer skills experience using computer software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse patients, staff, and consultants.
- Self-starter and strong multitasking and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as in team environment.
