Political Officer
The British Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City is part of a world-wide network of 230 Posts, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. As part of British diplomacy’s growing presence in Asia, we are looking to recruit a Political Officer to join our dynamic team in Ho Chi Minh City. You will be part of the Political team based in Hanoi and will support the country-wide network by providing advice and analysis to the UK Government in Vietnam.

Main Duties:
- Monitor and keep abreast of Vietnam’s political developments
- Build a network of contacts in Southern Vietnam
- Promote political cooperation between the UK and Vietnam through engagement with government agencies and a wide variety of other stakeholders
- Lead on project development and delivery
- Provide political advice and support to the Political Section in Hanoi and work closely with UKTI in HCMC
- Organise and facilitate visits by government officials
Requirements:
- Degree-holder with evidence of further education (e.g. diploma or Masters qualification)
- Experience in International Relations, or study in this area, would be highly advantageous
- Strong knowledge of Vietnam’s political environment and the ability to work within it is required
- Able to work independently, with good interpersonal and networking skills
- Strong initiative and ownership of project deliverables
- Proficient in both Vietnamese and English, both written and spoken
- Strong IT literacy and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Preferred commencement date: Feb 2012
