Project Officer
WWF is one of the world's largest and most respected independent conservation organizations, with almost 5 million supporters and a global network active in over 100 countries.
WWF-Vietnam is one country component of the WWF Greater Mekong and is the implementing arm for projects in Vietnam mainly in Central Annamites, Southern Annamites and the Mekong Delta. Our major activities focus on Freshwater, Forestry, Marine and Aquaculture, Agriculture and Agroforestry, Policy and Advocacy.
Since 2005, WWF-Vietnam has worked closely with the Vietnamese forest industry, government and NGOs to support a transition to more sustainable wood production and consumption practices. As part of this work, WWF-Vietnam has played an active role in consultations for a Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) between Vietnam and the European Union. Negotiations for a VPA began in 2010, and the development of a timber legality definition and legality assurance scheme is well advanced. WWF-Vietnam has contributed its expertise and resources to this process through its membership of Vietnam’s FLEGT Technical Working Group, and through its engagement with the forest industry in WWF’s Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN)
We are currently seeking for well-qualified and experienced Vietnamese candidates for full-time position of PROJECT OFFICER for FLEGT project (based in Hanoi city, Vietnam)
Main responsibilities:
The Project Officer will support the national Project Manager in the planning, management, implementation, monitoring and reporting of project activities to ensure compliance with project requirements and WWF’s contractual obligations, and to ensure close collaboration among the national project team, partners and other stakeholders in Vietnam.
Qualifications and Experience:
- BSc or MSc degree in forestry, natural resources management, trade policy, or a related field
- At least 5 years of practical experience in international development projects in Vietnam, 2 years of which should be in forestry, natural resources, trade or related fields
- 4 years working experiences with forestry companies and donors;
- Knowledge of forestry policy, VPA/FLEGT process in Vietnam, timber legality and EUTR aspects is an advantage;
- Working knowledge of the policy and institutional context for forest law enforcement and governance reforms in Vietnam
- Knowledge of the realities of government agencies, development partners, donor institutions, and the not-for-profit sector in Vietnam
- Experience in working with the Vietnamese government, especially with MARD/VN forest. Good working relationships with government and local NGOs and working experiences with WWF are an advantage.
- Good negotiation, Presentation, communications, and public speaking skills
- Fluency in written and spoken English and local language
