Education for Nature - Vietnam (ENV) was established in 2000 as Vietnam’s first nongovernmental organization focused on the conservation of nature and protection of the environment. Our mission is to foster greater understanding amongst the Vietnamese public about the need to protect nature and wildlife. We employ creative and innovative strategies to influence public attitudes and mobilize Vietnamese citizens to live in balance with the natural world. We work closely with government partners to strengthen policy and legislation and directly support enforcement efforts in the protection of endangered species of national, regional and global significance.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION: International Capacity Building and Communications Officer (paid volunteer position)
LOCATION: Hanoi, Vietnam
REPORTS TO: Douglas Hendrie, Chief Technical Advisor
Term: One year minimum

The capacity building and communications officer is tasked with the following duties and responsibilities:

Capacity Building and Training

  • Strengthen the capacity of key supervisory staff within the communications and demand reduction departments to plan, manage, communicate, and execute program activities effectively
  • Identify weaknesses of staff and develop an ongoing training for these staff
  • Provide critical advice, and in some cases where necessary or appropriate, directly intervene in the planning and execution of activities and campaigns
  • Provide assistance to the operations director and management board overseeing all ENV activities (in all departments) where applicable, to help ensure that ENV programs and activities meet output requirements and conform to the quality and value expectations of the organization

Communications and Networking

  • Implement ENV’s English language Digital Communications Strategy to enhance quality and content of information flow to a broader base of ENV friends and supporters
  • Enhance ENV’s international profile through communications activities, networking partnerships and use of social media such as Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter
  • Develop an English-language media strategy to raise ENV’s international profile
  • Design and develop ways for ENV to connect with selected corporate partners

Additional duties

  • Assist in fundraising efforts where applicable
  • Other duties and special assignments as assigned by ENV Operations Director & ENV Management Board

REQUIREMENTS

  • Native English speaker
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Proficiency in use of Word, Excel, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube
  • Strong character with a ‘can do’ attitude, with an ability to use initiative and think outside the box
  • A passion for wildlife conservation
  • Management experience desirable

COMPENSATION

  • Monthly stipend
  • Business/working visa after three month period
