Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading international intergovernmental agency working on migration and mobility of people. IOM has its Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland and is comprised of 156 Member States and 113 Observers, and is working in over 480 field locations throughout the world with over 8,400 staff members. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Major Duties: Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Mission IOM Vietnam (COM) and the direct supervision of the Head of Programme Unit, the Project Coordinator assumes several responsibility in the project team related to project implementation and development. S/he will be responsible for implementing projects in accordance with IOM project development and implementation guideline and is expected to make substantive contribution to formulating initiatives and project ideas for IOM Viet Nam. S/he will provide input to the Programme Unit’s planning especially in thematic areas related to gender and migration and counter-trafficking and contribute to the visibility of IOM’s project work.

More particularly, the Project Coordinator will:

1. Coordination and implementation of projects assigned

  • Independently provide full range of project management and implementation assistance at all phases of the project cycle, seeking guidance only in exceptional circumstances;
  • Maintain necessary partnerships according to project work plan;
  • Conduct monitoring visits to project sites and other TDY upon request to ensure timely implementation;
  • Ensure compliance with project reporting requirements (both narrative and financial) in a timely manner;
  • Identify project implementation issues/problems and reports to senior managers (COM/HoO/Head of PPDI) in a timely manner with recommendations/solutions;
  • Assist in the planning and coordination, and making necessary arrangements for project field trips, conferences, meetings, and presentations.

2. Responsibility for the liaison with the external partners for coordinating implementation activities

  • Maintain positive relations with relevant governmental, non-governmental entities as well as other international organizations and local NGOs on programmatic issues;
  • Track, compile, analyse, and present information on new developments and on relevant trends/ policies in the field of migration and more particularly in the field of counter-trafficking and related areas to migrant protection for consideration by Head of Programme Unit;
  • Assist in the fundraising activities with the relevant donor communities;
  • Attend meetings and events on behalf of IOM as authorized by the Head of Office;
  • Draft speeches and undertake translations and/or interpretation upon request.

3. Visibility and project development

  • Contribute to the visibility of the project under his or her responsibility including drafting of  project information sheets and press briefings and  create visual and written documentation of project results for different communication channels, including social media.
  • Identify and develop project ideas and proposals in collaboration with the Head of the PPDI Unit.
  • Contribute to resources mobilization to bridge the financial gaps within the Programme Unit

4. Other duties

  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned. 

Education/Experience Required: 

  • Bachelor or Master Degrees, at least seven year experience in law, development or related field and managing projects;
  • Knowledge and experience in results-based monitoring and evaluation required;
  • Good financial management skills required;
  • Have a good established network with local NGOs, government authorities;
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation and negotiation skills;
  • High level of proficiency in both Vietnamese and English;
