MARKETING SPECIALIST – FRUIT VALUE CHAIN

SOCODEVI, the Société de coopération pour le développement international, is a network of cooperatives and mutuals that share technical expertise and know-how with partners in developing countries in order to create, protect and distribute wealth. SOCODEVI is a Canadian not-for-profit corporation for international development established in Vietnam since 2002.

The Vietnam Cooperative Enterprise Development Project is managed by SOCODEVI and financed by Global Affairs Canada.

ASSIGNMENT VENUE AND VALUE CHAIN: Ho Chi Minh City, with travels in Binh Thuan (Dragon fruit), Ninh Thuan (table grape) and Ben Tre (Pomelo)

DURATION OF THE CONSULTANCY: The duration of the consultancy is expected to be of 50 days

SUMMARY:

VCED project aims to improve Vietnamese cooperative sector contribution to gender-equitable economic growth and to women and men farmers’ livelihood conditions. To achieve this, VCED Project will work at three different levels:

1) Establishment and strengthening of sustainable agriculture cooperative enterprises in strategic value chains within the Vietnamese economy to become models of reference for scaling up;
2) Improvement of productivity and quality of agriculture production in a sustainable manner at the farm (household W/M) level, with value added;
3) Support the Government and stakeholders of the cooperative sector in the establishment of an enabling environment for the cooperative development.

The marketing specialist consultant will be assigned the identification and development of market opportunities and the implementation of a marketing and trade strategy for new agricultural cooperative model in dragon fruit, pomelo and table grape value chains.

The main concern of the farmers in these three fruit value chain is to link with new lucrative market and the new cooperative model that will be implemented is appealed to play such a role of intermediation between farmers and new market likely market niche.

GENERAL DUTIES:

The consultant must demonstrate strong skills in marketing of agrifood products on national and international market, especially in the fruit value chains.

The consultant will work closely with other VCED team specialists and expertsIn details, the consultant will have to:

• Analyze and propose solutions for the trading of fruit by new style established cooperative;
• Identify lucrative markets and determine the technical and financial feasibility of these markets for the new style established cooperatives;
• Develop strategies to increment supply and demand of selected fruits (dragon fruit, pomelo and table grape);
• Carry out studies on research and business intelligence as well as market research studies
• Coordinate and/or execute as well as follow-up the processes to formulate business and investment plans for the cooperative involved in the project;
• If deemed needed, plan and develop training and methodology on the subject of agribusiness and business management

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• Master university degree in agro economy, marketing, business administration or any other related field;
• At least 10 years of experience in marketing and business development as advisor or business manager in agricultural enterprises and ideally in the fruit sector;
• Has led market researches and related marketing feasibility studies;
• Experience in marketing and trading agricultural products on national and international markets;
• Has successfully contributed to the drawing up and execution of business plans;
• Ability to establish and maintain linkages with business partners;
• Experience with cooperatives, associations or other associative enterprises is a plus;
• Excellent knowledge and skills in English communication and writing, French will be an asset;
• Excellent knowledge and skills of technology information (Windows Office, internet, others).
