Short-term Consultant
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Taproot Foundation works with leading companies to design and implement high-impact programs that make business talent available to organizations working to improve society. Taproot’s Advisory Services practice will be managing a pro bono service program in Vietnam with a large multi-national insurance company beginning in early April, and is seeking an experienced Consultant to assist Advisory Services personnel with NGO recruitment for the program.
With the support of this Consultant, Taproot is looking for NGO partners who could benefit from capacity-building and technical assistance from teams of skilled volunteers who will support them over the course of 8-week projects. Projects leverage the expertise of business professionals with backgrounds in areas such as marketing and communications, growth and strategy, or financial management. Written and spoken English proficiency is required, and extensive knowledge and strong relationships with the NGO sector in Hanoi, Vietnam is preferred. This is a short-term consulting position based in Hanoi which is estimated to take place between April and October, with the majority of work taking place between April and May. Consulting fees are commensurate with experience, salary history, and ability.
SCOPE OF WORK
The consultant’s responsibilities will include the following:
- Assist with the identification and vetting of potential NGO partners in Hanoi, Vietnam
- Identify high-potential organizations and specific needs within these organizations that would make them strong partners for these projects
- Coordinate and participate in screening calls between the Taproot team and local potential NGO partners
- Coordinate and facilitate on-the-ground meetings with local NGOs during the Taproot team’s trip to Hanoi in May 2016 to scope the pro bono projects; translation support may be necessary
- Communicate regularly with U.S.-based Taproot team and corporate client to align on project direction
- Be easily and regularly accessible during the duration of this work, serve as a logistical / informational resource on the ground
- Participate in weekly evening conference calls in English with the Taproot team throughout April and May. Work will extend intermittently through October 2016, so flexible work schedule is preferred Support Taproot team and client with virtual meeting facilitation during 8-week long skills-based volunteering projects in August and September 2016, ensuring smooth communication between project teams and NGOs
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Fluency in English and Vietnamese
- Currently residing in Hanoi, Vietnam
- Relevant education and background in business administration, NGO management, international relations, communications, project management, or a similar field
- Strong network from extensive involvement or interaction with the Vietnamese NGO sector
- Deep familiarity with Vietnam’s NGO sector, well-versed in sector-wide challenges, trends, and opportunities
- Experience working on USAID or World Bank projects in Vietnam a plus
- Excellent project management skills and ability to successfully balance multiple responsibilities
- Interest in Corporate Social Responsibility and passion for cross-sector collaboration
- Attention to detail
- A natural relationship-builder with exceptional interpersonal skills, cultural and social issue sensitivity
- Ability to support Taproot with professionalism, respect, and humility
