Regional Communication Officer
International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Regional Communication Officer to provide communication and dissemination support to research, management, experts and partners in Vietnam and across East and Southeast Asia. It will also be part of ILRI’s global communications and knowledge management community of practice working across the institute.
ILRI works to enhance the roles livestock play in pathways out of poverty in developing countries. ILRI is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Consortium, a global research partnership of 15 centres working with many partners for a food-secure future. ILRI has two main campuses in East Africa and other hubs in West and southern Africa and South and Southeast Asia. www.ilri.org.
The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in 31 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and receive funding from over 50 different donors.

Key responsibilities
- Write, edit and produce communication and knowledge sharing products targeted to reach different audiences (researchers, policy makers, media), following ILRI guidelines
- Ensure that all products (photos, video, documents, presentations) of ILRI activities are captured, described, and published on ILRI-supported platforms
- Produce popular materials for ILRI’s regional communication platform such as online content, blogs, briefs and other print publication, audiovisual narrations, etc.
- Produce/edit and manage photo captions and video scripts for online and print publication
- Publish online country and project profiles/media releases/blogs/hot topics/success stories using a variety of media.
- Provide guidelines/guidance to ILRI staff on style and format for different outlets and audiences Support the design, and maintenance of websites and wikis, with other ILRI communications staff
- Coordinate with photographers, designers, and publishers regarding the provision of materials and services for publications and video
- Establish and maintain linkages with ILRI research staff in the region, with ILRI communications staff at headquarters in East Africa, and with a range of partners in the region for information dissemination and public awareness
- Participate in regional events to support documenting and communicating outcomes
- Facilitate communications and knowledge sharing among ILRI staff and partners/ stakeholders in the region, producing regular project updates and documenting and sharing insights and results as needed
- Contribute to the ILRI-wide communications and Knowledge Management (CKM) community of practice, participate in CKM learning, reviewing and planning activities and ensure that these activities follow ILRI standards and agreed channels
- Carry out other tasks that may be required by the Regional Representative and scientists in project management activities from time to time
- Support other tasks as assigned to assist Office Manager to ensure smooth running of the office and projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Development Communication, Journalism, Languages or related field
- Fluency in both written and spoken Vietnamese and English required
- At least 3-5 years of relevant work experience
- Experience in developing communication products
- Experience working with partners, including government agencies
- Familiar with use of a variety of social media
- Proficiency in computer applications and a working knowledge of the internet and email
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Careful, organized and flexible
- Able to undertake occasional travels when required
- Working experience with international organizations or NGO(s) is an advantage
- Working experience in the development context is preferable
- Experience in developing training materials and acting as resource person in training preferable
- Experience in facilitating workshops, conducting trainings preferable
- A good track record on produced communication materials is an advantage
Terms of Appointment
This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Hanoi Office, Vietnam for a 2 years fixed term period with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and continued funding.
Job Level
This position is job level 2D and open to Vietnamese nationals. ILRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package for ILRI’s Nationally Recruited Staff.
