Senior Integrity and Engagement Officer

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND SELECTION CRITERIA

Duties

The Senior Integrity and Engagement Officer assists the Principal Migration Officer (PMO) and DIBP Engagement Manager with management of returns of Vietnamese nationals illegally in Australia, caseload assurance and visa integrity.  The officer also assists in engagement with Vietnamese and Laos partners including coordination of DIBP funded capacity building projects.

The key responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Under guidance from the PMO and Engagement Manager, manage the return of Vietnamese nationals in accordance with MOUs and associated guidelines.
  • Manage the receipt, recording, and response to referrals from onshore and other posts and assist the PMO and SMO with the conduct of integrity checks.
  • Assist in the detection and recording of fraud in the visa caseload. Prepare reports on organised fraud or other malpractice in the visa programs.
  • Assist the PMO, SMO and Engagement Manager liaise with Vietnamese government agencies and other external agencies and NGOs in relation to MOU returns, bilateral relations, capacity building, regional initiatives and compliance activities. Accompany and assist delegations as required.
  • Prepare Third Person Notes and correspondence for Vietnamese agencies and other counterparts on immigration and border protection related matters.
  • Provide quality interpretation and translation services for meetings, training courses, public speeches, site visits, MOU return matters, and otherwise as required.
  • Facilitate official visits by initiating contacts, arranging logistics, making meeting appointments.
  • Assist with monitoring capacity building projects.

Selection Criteria

  • General knowledge on border management / protection, immigration, Australia’s immigration laws, illegally migrated Vietnamese and the related issues; 
  • Demonstrated ability to elaborate notes, correspondences and reports; plan, prioritise, and schedule time and to meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment;
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as part of a team and maintain a supportive and collaborative work environment
  • Very good verbal and written communication (in both English and Vietnamese), including ability to perform translation/interpretation tasks
