JOB TITLE: Data Capturer (Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho positions available)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Location: Ho Chi Minh City, Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital Can Tho, Can Tho City's Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital
Contract Type: Part-time for 20 hours per week (50% FTE)
Duration: 6-months (with possibility of extension based on performance and funds availability)
Start Date: 1 October 2018
Travel requirements: Infrequent travel to other site locations for training and monitoring missions

BACKGROUND:

This position will work within the Expand New Drug markets for TB (endTB) study funded by UNITAID. EndTB uses the first tuberculosis (TB) drugs developed in almost 50 years, bedaquiline and delamanid, to help improve treatment outcomes for drug resistant TB in 17 countries. Within Viet Nam, the data capturer will work in close collaboration between the National TB Programme (NTP), Friends for International TB Relief (FIT) and Interactive Research and Development Viet Nam (IRD VN) to implement the endTB study and to support TB patients placed on new TB drugs. Data will be collected to investigate and evaluate the safety and efficacy of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) regimens with treatment containing new TB drugs. The study will provide scientific evidence and support for the NTP for the development of updated treatment regimens for MDR-TB patients in Viet Nam. FIT is a registered non-profit organization working in the field of TB prevention and care, service delivery, research, technical assistance and advocacy. FIT is a young, dynamic, growing organization. Over the past year, we have grown to over 25 office-based staff, with an additional 300 supervisors and health workers spread across multiple cities in Viet Nam. We work in close collaboration with Provincial and National TB Programmes and other in-country partners to implement projects funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 program, the Stop TB Partnership’s TB REACH initiative, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UNITAID and Johnson & Johnson. We have also have multiple active research partnerships, including with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in the UK, the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, the KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation in the Netherlands, and Ceres Nanosciences and SureAdhere Mobile Technology in the United States. FIT staff have supported the implementation of other TB programs in South and Southeast Asia, and represented Viet Nam at multiple regional and international forums on TB technical assistance. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Collect information from patients’ medical records, registration books, and other hospital-based data sources and fill out patient research forms from the data collected.
  • Verify that data collected and entered on research forms is completed and consistent with source documents (patient clinical notes).
  • Transfer the data from research forms to the database.
  • Provide treatment adherence support and follow-up with patients regarding additional health appointments.
  • Consult patients’ household members to visit the hospital for screening TB.
  • Report the progress to monitors, and coordinators.
  • Work closely with doctors, nurses and other health staff at hospitals in data collection.
  • Meet all donor reporting deadlines.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Exacting attention to detail is required
  • Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel
  • Good communication skills
  • Proven record of being consistent and dependable to an employer or a team
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work well both individually and in teams
  • Ability to balance numerous tasks simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
  • Candidates with prior experience with data collection will be prioritized

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Intermediate degree related to health

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fluency in Vietnamese
  • Must demonstrate ability to read in English
