TERM OF REFERENCE

FOR INTERPRETATION CUM TRAINING ASSISTANT

I. BACKGROUND

The International Center (formerly known as Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation -VVAF) is an US based non-profit organization based in Washington, DC. IC-VVAF established a representative office in Hanoi in 1994, and has been active in humanitarian assistance programs and development assistance continuously since that time. IC-VVAF has also addressed the consequences of war through advocacy and service programs in Vietnam for the last three decades. As a cofounder of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, IC-VVAF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997. Since then, IC-VVAF focuses on disability support, mine action, and mental health programs.

Under the financial support of United States Agency for International Development (USAID), IC is implementing the Disability Support Project named “Moving without Limits” in the three provinces of Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam and Binh Dinh from July 2015 until September 2022.

This project aims to improve the accessibility of the people with mobility impairments in Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, and Binh Dinh to quality and affordable assistive devices.

IC is seeking for translation and interpretation services cum training assistant for training courses delivered by international trainers specializing in AT/AD, including P&O. These courses are designed for 30 or 45 participants from health and rehabilitation facilities., from national to local levels.

II. PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

2.1. The purpose of this assignment is to:

• Translate training materials from English to Vietnamese and vice versa: The document translation includes but not limited to reports, questionnaires, forms, presentations and training materials which requested/provided by IC as requested;
• Provide online interpretation (and offline if possible) from English to Vietnamese and vice versa and assist with training courses to be delivered by international experts.
• Assist trainers in other translation and training materials preparation as needed.

2.2. Location and timeline:

• Location: Hanoi and travel to project sites if requested
• Timeline: June – December, 2021

2.3. Travel expenses with per diem (for airfares, taxi and accommodation) related to the assessment will be reimbursed in accordance with IC policies

III. QUALIFICATION:

• Bachelor or higher degree in English language or international English certificate
• Experience in translation and interpretation (both simultaneous and consecutive) from English to Vietnamese and vice versa.
• Experience in translating in medicine fields and Assistive Technologies and Assistive evices (AT/AD) and Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O) topics is an asset
• Good management and teamwork skills
• Ability to complete work on time.
