About the program

ASEAN–Australia Counter Trafficking (ASEAN-ACT) continues Australia’s long running collaboration with ASEAN and its member states to end human trafficking in the region. The program is a ten-year investment principally working with strengthening the justice sector response to trafficking in persons, while advancing the rights of victims. The program aims to open up new partnerships with allied government agencies, civil society and business. We engage with all 10 ASEAN Member States in some capacity and have national-level programming in Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar (currently on hold), the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

Overview

ASEAN-ACT has established communication platforms to reach and engage a broad audience including government, non-government organisations, civil society, and other counter-human trafficking stakeholders in the ASEAN region. In addition to digital storytelling, we have also created a resource portal for relevant research and lead virtual webinars that brings together a range of expertise.

Purpose of the role

The position will coordinate communications across seven country teams in the region, and support implementation of communication and engagement strategies. The position has the potential to be located in one of the Country Offices working as part of a diverse team, across multiple locations.  

Areas of Responsibility

The Communications and Engagement Coordinator will: 

  • Lead the coordination of story opportunities across seven country teams and conduct relevant research/interviews.
  • Create digital content for various online formats and audiences
  • Assist with the marketing of the Webinar series
  • Manage website content and identify opportunities to increase website traffic
  • Manage the portal site by identifying relevant research, publications and articles
  • Manage the design and development of communications products, including procurement and project management of suppliers
  • Ensure Country Teams apply program branding that aligns with Communication Guidelines and DFAT policy
  • Monitor media and measure the effectiveness of communication activities
  • Collaborate with the monitoring and evaluation team to support program’s evidence gathering and highlight the impacts being achieved.

Selection Criteria

Qualifications and experience:

  • Relevant qualifications in communications or related discipline such as journalism, marketing, business, media, information, public relations, international relations, international development, English studies.
  • Over 5 years’ experience in communications, advocacy/outreach or similar role for an international development organisation, NGO or civil society organisation
  • Experience in digital communication platforms using creative approaches
  • Proven experience writing in different formats, with strong English language abilities
  • Experience coordinating different projects, and working with a range of teams and suppliers
  • Ability to work across languages and cultures to identify opportunities, implement activities and meet deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Other communications skillsets (eg graphic design, video, photography experience)
  • Proficiency in one or more Southeast Asia languages
